The best file synchronization software allows you to back up your files for access from any device, whether at home, in the office, or on the road.
File synchronization solutions are often an integral part of backup software to make it easier to manage and restore data when needed.
Nowadays, file synchronization software solutions are delivered through cloud services, making it easier to synchronize, save, and protect data. Although there is a general solution for cloud storage, the advantage of synchronization is that files can be updated in real-time, so you always have the latest copy of what you need.
In addition to storing and synchronizing data, most synchronization solutions come with additional tools not only to manage your saved data but also to manage user access and permissions to allow file sharing and collaboration with stored files. This is especially important because many office environments now allow collaborative use of documents, but for security purposes, correct user permissions are required.
In addition, enterprise file synchronization also uses very strict security protocols to ensure that data is always protected and reduce the possibility of data leakage and malicious access.
In summary, here we show what we believe is the 11 best file synchronization solution currently available.
1. Raysync
Raysync is a high-speed large file transfer software. Whether it is a PB-level large file or a million-level small file, Raysync can efficiently meet the requirements of enterprise data synchronization transmission and file synchronization transfer, and accelerate the efficient operation of enterprise business. Generally speaking, Raysync provides a more professional and reliable large file transfer program. If you are interested, you can download our free trial version and enjoy the process of synchronized file transfer!
2. Microsoft OneDrive
Microsoft OneDrive is a popular version of the online Microsoft 365 suite. Although it is worth considering as a standalone product, if you do own Microsoft 365, then it may become an indispensable choice.
As a standalone version, OneDrive provides 5GB of storage space for free and provides additional backup options for home and business users. For home users, only a monthly payment can get 100GB of storage space.
However, OneDrive only appears when you use OneDrive as part of your Microsoft 365 subscription. Both the personal version and the commercial version provide a very large 1TB storage space and comprehensive applications. This can be used to back up any folders on the computer, regardless of whether they are office-related or not.
Files stored in OneDrive can be used on most devices, such as Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS devices. However, please pay attention to your OneDrive settings, because some files are only stored in the cloud by default, not on your device or computer, which may cause problems when working offline.
However, in general, OneDrive provides the most generous and extensive file backup and synchronization solution. Whether you are a home office user, a small business user, or running a business, OneDrive provides an excellent daily file synchronization solution for business files.
3. Sync.com
As one of the more complete file synchronization solutions, Sync.com, located in Canada, provides three different plans for corporate users. The first tier, Business Pro Teams Standard, provides each user with 1TB of considerable storage space, which can accommodate 2-100 users. All tools used to manage backup and synchronization provide unlimited data transfer.
The next level is Business Pro Teams Plus, which is priced per user per month. It is also suitable for 2-100 users, and each user has 4TB of storage space available. There is also a multi-user management panel, which can be transferred in the synchronization account, and centralized billing to cover all users.
Business Pro Teams Advanced increases the storage space for backup and synchronization files to 10TB per user and adds live chat support as a feature.
All plans come with sharing and collaboration options, 2048-bit RSA, SSL/TLS encryption, version history and recovery, and remote wipe and lock .
4. GoodSync
GoodSync is an established company that provides file synchronization and backup software services. The setup is very simple, you only need to install the software, select the target files and folders, and then set up the automatic functions for backup and synchronization. That's it.
The simplicity of use hides the fact that this is a powerful solution in several different forms. One is GoodSync servers, which provide backup and synchronization for Windows and Linux servers. The other is the GoodSync file server, which allows the specified files and folders to be backed up and synchronized to the private cloud, and provides various rules and automation options to ensure easy management of everything.
No matter which type you choose, there are home and business editions, and the home edition offers a free package with limited features. However, we will focus here on business solutions, which provide many standard features, especially multithreading, block-level data transfer, and local and remote file support. The file server option allows unlimited connections and users.
5. Syncplicity
Syncplicity is easy to install on a Mac or PC , and it can back up folders and files of your choice to the cloud.
After configuration, it works transparently. The personal version provides free 10GB of storage space on an unlimited number of devices, and 100GB requires a monthly payment. Even this layer is equipped with enterprise-level features such as secure mobile editing and PDF annotations-you can also choose your public cloud storage location , in addition to real-time document version control and backup.
The business plan is similar but adds additional features for collaboration and group user control for file sharing.
Enterprise plans to provide more advanced features such as AD integration and single sign-on, as well as MDM integration and remote wipe of any user device. The file synchronization and access functions are excellent, you can synchronize any folder, and you can fine-tune the content that can be excluded. However, there is no uniform pricing for this, you need to contact Syncplicity for a quote.
6. Resilio Sync
Resilio Sync has an interesting background story: it was spun off from BitTorrent Inc, which means it has peer-to-peer technology as part of its DNA. P2P is a tried-and-tested and trustworthy protocol, especially useful for sending large files quickly. It is one of the very few services compatible with Linux and a large number of network-attached storage solutions .
Unlike most of the content we covered here, Resilio Sync is not a cloud-based file synchronization solution. Instead, it relies on the synchronization process of devices connected in peer-to-peer mode. There are free versions and paid products, which can link all your devices, have a one-time sending function, selective synchronization function, and the function of automatically adding folders to all devices. You need to install it on all devices you want to sync.
Sync Business will better serve enterprises. This is a subscription service where each user has unlimited devices, file-level deduplication, data reduction, end-to-end encryption, and server support. Resilio Connect is an enterprise-level version of Sync Business, providing WAN optimization and advanced management functions.
7. Google Drive
If you are a small business or individual user, as a basic backup, synchronization, and sharing solution, it is difficult to beat Google Drive. Google Drive provides backup and synchronization for individual users, it just does what it says. Copy files from your computer, smartphone, or memory card to the cloud. Find your files on Google Drive on most desktop or mobile devices.
All versions of Google Drive, whether it is a personal, professional, or enterprise version, support documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, as well as video and audio conferences.
The simplicity of Google Drive is hard to beat. It is easy to use, and the backup and synchronization functions can be used to back up files to PCs and USB drives in the cloud. Where it fails is that it can’t really compete with Microsoft 365’s generous OneDrive storage, let alone Microsoft’s office tools.
However, as a simple and easily accessible synchronization solution-if, this is what you need-Google Drive is one of the best options worth considering.
Other cloud storage and synchronization software solutions
IDrive is another popular backup and synchronized file storage solution, and its basic level provides 5GB for free. There are paid personal editions and commercial editions. The personal edition 5TB storage is cheaper, and there is a discount for the first year. Commercial options of 250GB and above are more expensive, and discounts are also available for the first year.
SugarSync provides file and synchronization storage solutions for personal and business users and has built-in additional security protection to protect offline stored files, as well as permission options. Personal plans start from 100GB, while multi-user enterprise accounts start with 2TB storage and can accommodate up to three users. More than a dozen active users need custom quotes.
SpiderOak provides many cloud storage options. Although they provide services for home users, they pay more attention to the needs of business users, especially when online collaboration may be required for file usage. A personal plan for the SpiderOak One platform, providing 150GB of storage space. Enterprise users can choose different versions, but enterprise storage requires at least 500 users.
Apple iCloud is a service for macOS and iOS users, providing 5GB of online backup for free. You can choose to pay to upgrade to 50GB, 200GB, or 2TB, and provide family sharing options. However, it is strange that Apple does not use its own servers, but uses cloud storage from Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.

File synchronizationfile sync

Data transfer has played an important role for enterprises to conduct business with its customers, partners and suppliers while acting as its foundation in mining data value. However, the emergence of the Big Data era has spawned a massive amount of data, while various data types and interactive scenarios have become increasingly complex, the efficiency and security of data transfer is also facing its challenges. If enterprises desire to continue extract value and create opportunities, the foremost priority is to tackle data transfer.
Challenges: Large File Transfer
● While the amount of data has skyrocketed, the transfer efficiency is still poor;
● Data types are diverse and traditional transferring methods are difficult to guarantee its integrity;
● Network environment is complex while the cases of data loss and leakage are increasing;
● Cross-regional and long-distance teamwork has increased, but high latency and high packet loss rate have also become prominent.
The key to solving the challenges above is to find a first-class data transfer engine. This would eminently support enterprises to build a high-speed, secure, and stable environment for data transfer, which brings an edge to lead in a data-driven development.
The Great TCP Bottleneck
Transfer protocol is the foundation beneath every data transfer, in which TCP is the most commonly used IP transport layer protocol. Compared to other protocols, TCP is able to provide a more reliable service for establishing connections between specific network systems and applications.
Originally developed in the early 1970s when networks were still local and data files were small, TCP served as the basic protocol which enabled data to move efficiently and reliably within the local area network with very small bandwidth. To maintain this reliability, TCP ensures that the application data transmitted in a single TCP connection arrives at the receiver’s application in the same sequence as when it was sent. Therefore, TCP uses an algorithm to establish the connection between the sender and receiver, creating transfer requests in turn, and splitting the data into packets, which are then sent separately through the network without the need for acknowledgement until reaching its definition limit. .
The sliding window protocol is used by TCP to define the data buffer. Figure 1 below is a simplified diagram that demonstrates how TCP sends out small packets over the network and how TCP windowing controls how much data can be transmitted without acknowledgement. As the packets are delayed, TCP will then slow down the transfer rate with a smaller window size, which further limits the number of unacknowledged packets allowed.
TCP algorithm is proved to be effective when data transfer occurs over a short distance while the network is not congested. However, when the round trip time of packet transfer is inevitably increased by distance, both the performance and efficiency shall be affected. Especially under the scenarios of long-distance, transnational transfer, the transfer of large files and massive small files will expose the drawbacks of TCP protocol:
● Low transfer efficiency, end-to-end transfer requires sequence acknowledgement, the data processing is slow;
● Increase of data loss rate and latency when large files are transmitted;
● Extreme congestion control throttling which results in unnatural throughput loss;
● TCP cannot guarantee its reliability, its file check mechanism is imperfect.
In essence, TCP cannot be defined as a reliable transfer in the true sense of the word. Especially under the pressure of data volume and distant transfer, TCP is unable to guarantee the efficiency of transfer and yet it may expose enterprises to data security threats.
Raysync – A Brand New Transfer Protocol
Raysync’s high-speed transfer protocol is a core transfer technology developed by Shenzhen Yunyu Technology Co., Ltd. based on the UDP transfer protocol. This breakthrough technology does not simply optimize or accelerate data transfer but it takes a leap forward in the transfer technology to completely eliminate the underlying bottleneck while overcoming the limitations of traditional network and hardware. Raysync is able to fully make use of network bandwidth thus provides an ultra-low latency, high speed and end-to-end output service. The transmission rate can be increased by nearly 100 times, achieving over 96% of bandwidth utilization rate while easily adhering to the security, controllability and stability requirements for TB-level large files and massive small files transfer.
Transport Layer: A Black Tech that Overthrows the TCP Protocol
The TCP transfer protocol does provide a reliable data transfer under ideal conditions, but with its fixed throughput bottleneck, a prominent and serious condition would occur due to high packet loss and latency caused by a long-distance network transfer.
Raysync guarantees reliability in the application layer with an innovative method that eliminates drawbacks such as low efficiency in TCP, packet loss, processing errors and unstable transfer rate. To ensure 100% reliability, Raysync adopts the best mechanism that accurately identifies and passes on the actual packet loss condition on the transfer channel.
Application Layer: Best Alternative to FTP
The FTP transfer protocol has been used for more than 40 years, but it is also a fact that the efficiency of FTP file transfer has been far less than the growth rate of data in the face of today's complex file exchange requirements. FTP is even worse in the file management tasks that enterprises urgently need today.
In order to transfer files while maintaining security through FTP, this requires complex scripts, continuous maintenance, and even other applications to assist. All of which may cause time and money losses to enterprises by varying degrees.
Basing upon UDP’s high-speed transfer protocol, Raysync breaks through the bottleneck of large file transfer which satisfy enterprises’ needs by building an intelligent transfer platform that processes and integrates massive data at an unprecedented speed.
Fast, Secure and Reliable Large File Transfer System
With its high-speed transfer protocol, Raysync provides all-around support for enterprises in large file interactions and cross-platform cooperation, achieving standardization within and between enterprises.

More and more enterprises are seeking large file transfer solutions to improve the efficiency and stability of file and data transfer. Mature file transfer solutions feature stable transfer, low latency, high security and fast transfer speed. Here are a few suitable methods for enterprises to transfer files, if you are interested, please read on.
Solution for large file sharing
1. The speed of file transfer
The speed of file transfer depends on the quality of the transfer protocol and the utilization of network bandwidth. Traditional TCP and UDP, the former has high transfer reliability, but the speed is too slow, and the latter has guaranteed speed but insufficient reliability.
Raysync high speed file transfer solution is developed based on the transfer performance of UDP, breaking through the defects of traditional FTP and HTTP transfer. Its transfer rate is increased by 100X and the bandwidth utilization rate is increased to 96%. Intelligently accelerate the transfer throughout the entire process, and can also avoid the high packet loss rate due to network delays, and greatly accelerate the efficiency of file outsourcing. The multi-dimensional transfer format meets the demand for extremely fast transfer of TB-level large files and massive small files.
2. Timeliness and security of file synchronization
File synchronization, real-time synchronization of files is what currently needs file synchronization software to do. In terms of file synchronization technology, Raysync uses file intelligent two-way synchronization. Intelligent two-way synchronization has fixed-point synchronization and real-time synchronization. We can create synchronization tasks according to actual needs. In terms of security technology, the financial-level AES-256+TLS encryption algorithm is adopted, and the data security net is strong and dense.
3. Data backup
To ensure the validity of data backup, Raysync can set up a hash check for file transfer. Hash verification is a verification system designed to ensure the correctness of files and prevent some people from embezzling programs, adding some Trojan horses, or tampering with copyright. Each file can use the Hash MD5 verification program to calculate a fixed MD5 code. Hash verification is often used on forums and when the software is released. When the hash check is turned on, after the file transfer is completed, the system will check the file after the transfer and the file on the server to ensure the integrity of the file.
We often say that backup is a life-saving straw for accidents, but the premise that this straw can save lives is that it can effectively back up when a disaster occurs. Most people's concept of "backup" still only stays at "just have a backup", but they rarely think about "whether the backup is effective".

Transfer large filesFile synchronization

File synchronization is the process of ensuring that two or more locations contain the same latest files. If you add, change, or delete files from one location, the synchronization process will add, change, or delete the corresponding files in another location. Synchronization can be "two-way" or "one-way".
What is One-Way Synchronization and Two-Way Synchronization?
Two-Way Synchronization
This synchronization process copies files in both directions to coordinate changes as needed. It is expected that the file will change in both locations. These two positions are considered equivalent.
Example: If the file is newer in location A, it will be copied to location B. However, if the file is newer in location B, it will be copied to location A. Similarly, if a file is deleted from location A, the file will be copied. Also deleted from position B, and vice versa.
One-Way Synchronization
The file can only be changed in one location. To coordinate changes, the synchronization process copies files in only one direction. These two positions are not considered equivalent. Ø NE location is considered the source and the other is considered the target. The file is pushed away from the source to target . It is said that Source has been mirrored to Target.
This will create an exact 1:1 copy of all files in the "source to target". Since only new files are changed, this is very useful and effective for backup.
Example: If the file is newer in location A , it will be copied to location B . However, if the file in location B is newer, it will not be copied to location A. Similarly, if a file is deleted from location A, it will be deleted from location B.
Auto-Sync
File synchronization can be run automatically at irregular intervals, ie every 10 minutes, every 2 hours, etc., at scheduled times , in real-time . Detected at startup or shutdown.
Common File Synchronization Solutions
Synchronization between computers connected to a local network . The computer can be a laptop, desktop, workstation, server. For cross-computer sharing of selected folders, use Windows file sharing and sync use and vice versa.
Synchronization between computers connected to the Internet . This requires a VPN tunnel. The computer can be a laptop, desktop, workstation, server.
Synchronization between computer and external drives . Synchronization between computer and NAS. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the selected folder on the computer and/or drive has the same latest files. Synchronization between unconnected computers
For computers that are not connected to the network, you can use a portable USB drive to synchronize.
If the files on the home computer must be synchronized with the files on the computer at work, you can synchronize the PC-1 with a portable USB drive, and then connect the PC-1 with the portable The USB drive is synchronized to achieve synchronization. The drive works normally and performs the same synchronization between the PC-2 and the portable USB drive. At the end of the process, the same latest file will be on both PCs and USB drives, which is useful for data backup.

Synchronous Transfer
Synchronous transmission is the data transfer in units of data frames. Frame synchronization signals in the form of characters or bit combinations can be used. The transmitter or receiver provides a clock signal dedicated to synchronization. In short-distance high-speed large file transfer, the clock signal can be transmitted by a dedicated clock line. When the computer network adopts the synchronous transmission method, the clock synchronization signal is often embedded in the data signal frame to achieve clock synchronization between the receiver and the transmitter.
In digital communication, synchronization is very important. When the transmitter transmits data information to the receiver through the transmission medium, for example, each time a character data signal is sent, the receiver must recognize the start bit and end bit of the character data signal. To correctly read each bit of the data signal of the character at the appropriate time, this is the basic synchronization problem between the receiver and the transmitter.
When sengding data signals in data frames, to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the transmitted signal, in addition to requiring the receiver to be able to recognize the start and end of the signal corresponding to each character , to ensure that the reading starts and ends at the correct time Retrieving the signal means maintaining the integrity of the transmitted signal. It is also required to keep the clock and the transmitter at the same frequency to ensure that the number of signal units reads per unit time is the same, that is, to ensure the accuracy of the transmitted signal.
Therefore, when transferring data signals in data frames, the transmitter is required to take the following two measures for the transmitted signals:
①Add a start signal and a stop signal different from the data signal before and after the corresponding signal of each frame of data;
② Add a clock synchronization signal before the data signal of each frame to control the clock synchronization of the receiver.
Asynchronous Transmission
Asynchronous transmission is the transmission of data in units of characters, using character synchronization signals in the form of bits. The transmitter and receiver have independent clocks , and neither side provides clock synchronization signals to the other side.
The sender and receiver of the asynchronous transmission do not need to coordinate before the data can be transmitted: the sender can move data at any time, and the receiver must be ready to receive data at any time.
The asynchronous transmission mode is generally adopted between the computer host and the input and output devices. Such as a keyboard, a typical RS-232 serial port : the sender can send a character at any time .
The Advantages and Disadvantages of Asynchronous and Synchronous Data Transmission
1. Asynchronous transmission is the character-oriented transmission, while the synchronous transmission is bit-oriented.
2. The unit of asynchronous transmission is character and the unit of synchronous transmission is a frame.
3. Asynchronous transmission seizes the opportunity of re-synchronization through the start and stops codes of character start and end, while synchronous transmission extracts synchronization information from the data.
4. The asynchronous transmission has lower requirements on timing, and synchronous transmission often coordinates timing through a specific clock line.
5. Asynchronous transmission is less efficient than synchronous transmission.
To Sum Up
Both asynchronous transmission and synchronous transmission have the above basic synchronization problem: character synchronization or frame synchronization signals are generally used to identify the start and end of transmitting character signals or data frame signals. The main difference between the two is whether one of the transmitter or receiver sends a clock synchronization signal to the other party.
